Cam Actuated Brake
Cam actuated brakes offer the advantage of flexible actuation. They can be activated mechanically, or hydraulically or pneumatically through external cylinders. This allows the brake system to support parking brake functions and also makes the combination of service and parking brake functions possible in suitable applications. KNOTT notes that these brakes are used mainly as parking brakes and also in air-braked trailers as combined service and parking brakes in the S-cam variant.
